Season of Change Feature

Season of Change

Here’s something you probably don’t know if you’ve never had hayfever: Spring is hell.  There’s no delight in the growing warmth. There’s no feeling of anticipation for the bounteous season ahead. That moment when Winter starts to fade away, revealing lush fields of grass and eager flowers, is no cause for celebration. There’s just resignation and a trip to the chemist for whatever treatment makes the whole time bearable.

That’s been my reaction to Spring for my entire life… until now. I gave up sugar last year and it came with a surprise benefit: no hayfever. For the first time in ever, I’m excited about Spring. The flowers are gorgeous! The warm wind blowing the grass fields is delectable! The blossom-scented air smells positively delightful!

Forget that feeling of impending doom – all I’m getting is a desire to do ALL OF THE THINGS.

Make curtains!

Finish all my sewing projects (and start sixty more)!

Overhaul my website!

You know, the standard list of things. I’m sure yours is much the same.

I’ve never felt this way before and it’s strange but I’m planning to make the most of it. And since some of that Spring energy is going to be dedicated to this website, I thought I’d get you all up to speed with what you can expect in the next few weeks.

1. Mess

Yes, Katie Writes Stuff is getting a new theme and design and that means there might be a bit of mess here and there. I’m excited to give the website a professional new look and I apologise in advance if your visit coincides with some design chaos. It won’t last long, I promise! At the moment, I’m inspired to write all of the words and I don’t want anything to get in the way of that.

2. A lot more stuff about writing

When I started my first proper blog on LiveJournal, it was all about writing. I wrote about other things, too, but mostly it was centred on my habit of banging words together until a story happened. It helped that I was actually writing at the time, instead of sitting around reminiscing about the times when I used to write.

And at the moment, I genuinely have a lot of time to write, which means I should have a lot of stuff to write about.

This doesn’t mean it’s going to be all writing all of the time. I’m still pathologically incapable of leaving the house without my camera, so there’ll be plenty of photos to share as well (not to mention a massive backlog of photo adventures since my post in January).

Which brings us nicely to the next topic…

3. Actual regular updates

I’m sick of starting blog posts with variations on the line: So it’s been six months since I updated… Writing blog posts is fun! Better still, it’s writing and you should be getting the idea that there are few things I like more than stringing a whole bunch of words together. Cheese comes close, I guess. I’m quite fond of cheese.

Basically, you’ll be getting many more cheese-fuelled blog posts on Katie Writes Stuff on a regular basis. I’m looking forward to it! I have all of these photos that I want to share and I could talk for days about writing, so I don’t anticipate running out of material any time soon.

And that’s it. A little bit of mess and some actual blog posts to read and enjoy, all of which will happen in between stepping outside and taking great big breaths of polleny Spring air.

Who would have thought that a new-found love of Spring could result in a website overhaul? I hope you enjoy what I create and I look forward to having your company for the next stage of the Katie Writes Stuff journey.
